School of Biblical Studies (SBS) Content: Let me introduce to you the nine month School of Biblical Studies. This is one of the most exciting and demanding schools the University of the Nations (YWAM) has. We use the powerful inductive approach to Bible study. On completion of the SBS you will not only have been equipped with the tools and skills for a lifetime of effective Bible study, you will have applied those skills to every book of the Bible, having read them on average 5 times each! This will give you an enviable and comprehensive grasp of scripture for your future ministry, whatever that may be. In addition to this, you will be taught how you can pass on the things you have learned to others in an effective way. The school is designed around three terms of twelve weeks each. It begins with what we call the Seminar Phase where the skills of Inductive Bible Study are taught and also the method we use to apply these skills. This involves lectures/workshops most mornings and evenings. The schedule then changes to lecture/workshops only three mornings each week with the rest of the time for you to apply the skills learned. We have a tight time frame for each book to allow each one to be studied in the 36 weeks. The lectures will supplement your own study and staff are on hand for encouragement and help. The lectures by school staff and guest teachers are on various books, historical background, literary genres, topical issues and geography. All stuff to help you make more sense of your studies. Application is a key part of the school, both in applying the Bible in ways that deepen your personal relationship with God, but also challenge your thinking about how the Bible applies to the wider world around us. Finally your work is handed in to be graded by the school staff, with the school being worth 36 credits towards a degree with the University of the Nations (U of N). During the school you will become part of the King's Lodge community and will be involved in daily work duties and weekly worship and intercession times with the rest of the students and staff at the base. Here is an example of the schedule: 1st term: 2nd term: 3rd term: At the end, you will have an enviable and comprehensive foundational grasp of scripture and honed skills of Bible study for a lifetime of ministry. Successful completion of the DTS or CDTS is a prerequisite for doing the SBS. University of the Nations information: A School of Biblical Studies Field Assignment can be arranged after the school for extra U of N credit. |
