DTS life Journal week 18 DTS Outreach Journal 'A Variety of Opportunities' During the week, we also had the opportunity to go to a small town near Caceres to help paint a church. Indeed, the town was very small and the church was a rather old and used building. During the morning, we painted and scraped and sanded. We could tell that our team attracted attention as we worked there that day because people often gathered, stopped or stared at us as we worked as a joyful bunch. After a few more hours of working after lunch, we took a walk around the beautiful town and prayed continually for the people living there. Whether it was because of siesta time or just how the town was, we felt like we were walking through a ghost town the entire time, we saw very few people and the streets just seemed so dead. Thus, we prayed against this and prayed for more life and joy to fill the streets of the town. It was a touching time when we prepared to leave as we saw how much we encouraged the believer that we worked with while that day. He cried and shared how much it meant for a team to come in and help him finish work that would take days for just him to complete. Although, it may not seem like we had fix a lot things in the house, the man was truly blessed and encouraged by our support. The people in the town are very against foreigners and believers and I can imagine how much persecution he must face as he works alone in the church every day. I thank Jesus for allowing us to bless this church for one short day and I pray that God will continue to prepare the hearts of the people in this town so that when the church opens, it will be filled. At the end of this week, our team set out to Alburquerque to assist in an English teaching program that has just started at a local bar. The opportunity for us to teach has been an answer to prayer as the owner of the bar has miraculously allowed Paul (the missionary) to host a program in her bar. Even though it is just to teach English, we believe that it is a door that God has opened for us to witness and to build relationship with the local people. And this Friday was our first try at the program and although not a lot of people showed up, God again, supernaturally provided opportunities for our team. Because Catherine was painting, she attracted many children to her table. Thus, an opportunity was created for us to just chat with the children and to teach them some English. However, when the time came for us to go, these children brought us all upstairs to a party where their mothers were and we ended up meeting 25 or so mothers; they were so friendly and generously as they gave us cakes and cookies. I think they were very thankful that we helped babysit their children for so long and left them undisturbed for the night. But still, it was an open opportunity for Paul and the Brazilian team to meet them that night; Paul got an opportunity to suddenly tell 25 people about the English program. It was an encounter that God had placed in our hands without us even realizing it. When we left, the children were all asking when we would come back because they were so attracted and interested in us. Praise God! |
