Multi-Focus DTS
“Multi-Focus” means that, in addition to the Discipleship Training School core curriculum set by Youth With A Mission’s University of the Nations, each trainee will also be given a choice of special focus during their School. The core of the DTS will stay the same, with the emphasis on Knowing God and Making Him Known. The classroom phase will consist of lectures, small groups, and great teaching/workshops, creating an environment for us to encounter God and be transformed by Him coupled with multi-track specialized input.
Health Care Focus
Every six seconds someone dies from a treatable disease – that’s millions of people dying for no reason! Do you have a desire to combine basic health care training and God’s heart for the poor and needy to bring hope and healing in developing nations? So many people have a desire to help the poor but don’t know how. This focus will give you the knowledge and skills to be able to do something!
This track will familiarize you with killing diseases in the developing world and train you to diagnose and manage 2 of the great killers. With a focus on “health education” you will be able to use your new skills to empower those you meet on your outreach phase with knowledge and skills to protect life.
Sports Focus
Do you love to play sports? Are you an athlete? Are you crazy about one sport, or do you just love them all? Want to do a DTS and enjoy playing sports at the same time?
This sports track is all about discipling, training and equipping people in missions, using sports as a key gateway. Sport is an amazing way to connect with people of all cultures and nationalities, especially young people. We will use sport as a key to reaching others by offering training and coaching sessions, tournaments but also building relationships through the interaction that sports creates. A great way to use your abilities and gifts to bring glory to God!
Youth and Family Ministry Focus
You only have to take a moment to look at this generation to see the incredible potential and vulnerability in youth and families the world over. We love to see young people impacted through knowing God and taking him to the world.
Do you have a heart to see children, youth and families impacted with the knowledge of God and able to make Him known to others? This focus will look at topics like human development, God’s heart for the lost children and youth, developing age-appropriate programs, etc. Our passion is to understand how to reach out to children and youth as well as families with wisdom and the love of God. One of YWAM’s foundational values is to champion young people. If you have a desire to be trained and equipped for ministry with children, youth and families, this track is for you.
Each lecture week will have dedicated times focusing on your chosen track to grow in knowledge, character and skill. Outreach teams will reflect the strengths from this multi-track curriculum, working together to serve communities.
The final week of outreach is always a DEBRIEF period to help you to process your experiences and to give you tools to help you to re-engage with your home environment. At the end of DTS we have a Commissioning Ceremony which is a special time to hear the amazing testimonies and to celebrate all that God has done in and through you.
To successfully complete a DTS, the trainee must attend the Lecture Phase, the Outreach Phase and Debrief. We do not accept applications for the Lecture Phase only.
