This week we continue to work with the local hospital in Durres specifically in Eye surgery. We’ve had many challenges but also seen amazing breakthrough in every turn! We’ve seen a vast amount of people with a variety of problems; from an old man who had an eye injury as a child with a catapult, an elderly married couple both with cataracts we were able to operate on together and one lady even had shrapnel in her eye from a bomb in the civil war! There were many more…and some even came as far as Kosovo to see us.
As we have been partnering with the local hospital in Durres we have had a number of different areas within the building for our Ophthalmology clinic. The Visual Acuity test is the first stage in the eye screening process to assess who needs surgery and who needs advice from our team Doctors. Everyday we had a lot of people who needed their eyes tested, word had spread why we were here and day after day the crowds grew bigger. We were never short of filling the needs of the Albanian people.

This week we’ve had a bit of a change of plan, we are now in Durres for our Ophthalmology outreach serving in a local hospital. There have been many changes to our plans and so now we smile at our slogan, which has become; ‘Blessed be the flexible, for they will not break!’At the start of the week we began with goodbyes to the volunteers from the last two weeks and drew a close to the Dental Outreach in Elbasan. Our remaining team members travelled to Tirana where they stayed for a few days to make the necessary preparations for the coming outreach. We even managed to squeeze in some time to go up Mount Dajti in the cable car to see the city from the top of the mountain!

In the last few years many of us have begun to notice trainees are coming into the mission with little to no Bible knowledge, even those who have grown up in the church. The Discipleship Training School (DTS) offers great discipleship but generally not a lot of Bible study. After the DTS, TKL offers the Bible Core Course and School of Biblical Studies but many do not desire the study focus they entail. Many would simply like to know what is in the Bible, how it fits together and how to apply it. During the summer of 2011 experienced YWAM Bible teachers began to think how to provide for this need; out of this the Discipleship Bible School (DBS) was born.
The aim of the DBS is to give a trainee a 3-month Bible overview, with teaching focused on real-life application. The goal would be for the trainee to walk away with an understanding of the story and chronology of the Bible, and how to engage with it in their lives and sphere of influence.
The DBS will read the entire Bible in chronological order, review the historical background and the content of each book. The trainees will also receive relevant topical teaching for books being studied each week. The trainees will also engage with the books they are studying through various study methods and creative assignments.
The heart of the school is that a trainee would fall even more in love with God and would desire to make Him known!

January 2013 saw the start of The King’s Lodge’s first ever Arabic/English “Desert 2 Island” DTS, attracting trainees from 10 different nations, including a significant number from the Middle East. There have been highs and lows, as trainees with radically different cultures and outlooks have grappled with the curriculum and the way of life on the DTS (Discipleship Training School). Several have testified to significant personal breakthroughs during the classroom phase as God has met them in the midst of their struggles and brought them into a new understanding of who He is and who they are in Christ. Among other highlights, they have studied world mission through the “Kairos” course and have shared their faith locally and in Cambridge – even learning Ceilidh dancing as a means to attract a crowd in freezing temperatures (!) – and joining in with the University’s missions week. The next topic is spiritual warfare and this is likely to be a crucial skill to master as they break ground on outreach in territory very resistant to Christian witness!

It is a short few weeks now until they will head off to a nation in the 10/40 window, for the “desert” part of their outreach. There they expect to do mercy ministry as well as reaching out to an unreached people group. They also want to serve the agency who will be hosting them. After a time of debrief from that part of the outreach, it’s off to the “island” – the Isle of Man, in fact, for the annual TT races. The team hopes to build on the relationships that The King’s Lodge has with many of the churches on the Isle of Man. They also expect to do street work and other types of evangelism: reaching out to the tens of thousands of fans who flock to the island every year for the famous motorbike races.

It will have been a roller-coaster of a DTS by the time they arrive back at TKL at the end of June . Please join with them in prayer as they pioneer a new direction in The King’s Lodge’s ministry. To find out more about a DTS (Discipleship Training School) go to: http://thekingslodge.com/dts/ or email: schools@thekingslodge.com

“For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach the statutes and ordinances in Israel”. Ezra 7:10
The Biblical Teaching and Preaching School (BTPS) is a dynamic hands-on course which allows the student to gain confidence and begin to develop expertise in the public communication of the word of God in a way that is relevant and serves their audience. The aim of the school is to prepare students for the ministry of teaching and/or preaching in both the local church setting, Christian classroom and on the mission field. By the end of the school the student should be able to preach and teach effectively to a wide variety of audiences, with their content well grounded in the Scriptures.
Alongside the ministry development there is an emphasis on the student’s continued character growth, recognising that the authority of a speaker lies in the integrity of their lives.
The BTPS is a 24 week course, with an integrated classroom and outreach/ministry phase.

In this September’s DTS we want to accelerate that process. We’re going to take a long look at what people go through when they don’t know Jesus. We’ll catch God’s infectious compassion for the broken. We’ll search the Bible to see what He is saying to believers about those outside the church’s doors. As we make this our focus alongside all of the great content that makes DTS what it is, God will give us His desire, His motivation to reach out to the world outside. We’ll go, and with Him leading us, we’ll meet people and find ways to share what we have with them. Read More More →In this September’s DTS we want to accelerate that process. What is the Discipleship Bible School (DBS)?
One of the first things we learn in the DTS is the YWAM motto upon which the mission is founded is: “To know God and to make Him known.” Yet one cannot possibly claim to know God if he/she does not even know His Word. So in the DBS we make the Bible the student’s companion for life! The student will discover the unified story of the Bible, be discipled by the Bible and will fall in love with the Author of the Bible. Full Details

Biblical Studies at The King’s Lodge We have a rich inheritance of Biblical Training at The King’s Lodge. The first School of Biblical Studies in Europe was pioneered here in 1985. Since then, we have run the School of Biblical Studies every year and have developed other Biblical Training courses since that time. It has been a privilege to invest in pioneering these courses in other locations in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. We love to partner with other locations and we send out several of our Biblical Studies teachers each year to teach and minister the Word of God.
BIBLICAL TRAINING COURSES OFFERED

Introduction to Primary Healthcare Youth With A Mission England
The Introduction to Primary Health Care School (IPHC) is a five to six month course designed to train those with or without prior medical experience to impact nations, communities, and individuals through health care. Training is geared specifically for work where there is little or no access to health care, most often the developing world.
Every 3 seconds someone in the world dies from poverty related disease – over 80% of all these diseases are preventable. The IPHC will equip you in practical skills and health care knowledge to be able to make a significant difference in people’s lives.
Principles in Child and Youth Ministries
Kings Kids Outreach from Nuneaton England YWAM. Do you have a heart for young people? Transform your relationship with God, and impact the nations. Join us in our vision to reach the next generations.
Principles in Child and Youth Ministries (PCYM) is a foundational school designed to equip you to understand God’s passionate heart for young people and families, and to explore biblical ways to work with and minister to them effectively.
Formal and informal input and interactive learning will be led by significant youth and children’s workers from around the world.
English for Missions
Is the English language your next step for ministry among the nations?
Be part of our exciting new course and learn English in the heart of England!
Our vision is to help you break down the language barrier and communicate with confidence. English has become the global means of communication, and this course is specifically designed to help you fulfill your calling and use your gifts in missions today. As well as foundational grammar and vocabulary topics, you will learn to worship, pray, read the Bible, lead a devotion and give your testimony in English. We want to see trainees released into further training and into the nations that God has placed on your heart.

YWAM (pronounced: why-wham) is a diverse, global, Christian, volunteer movement from many nations, backgrounds, ages and cultures; sharing their faith through meeting practical, spiritual and physical needs, offering training in more than 800 courses and seminars for service in all spheres of society. YWAM currently operates in over 1,000 locations and 180 countries, with over 18,000 staff.
When YWAM began in 1960, our main focus was giving young people opportunities to demonstrate the love of Jesus to the whole world, according to His command in Mark 16:15. Today we still focus on youth, but we have members (known as “YWAMers”)..
Transforming Lives – Impacting Nations
We do this by holding to the following values:
● To be a discipling community committed to live out the foundational values of Youth With A Mission.
● To provide training that promotes growth in Godly character, skills and knowledge, resulting in the application of Biblical truth and servant-hearted ministry. On January 1, 1984, a small group of YWAMers relocated to the Midlands after putting £1 down as a promise to purchase the property and building. With a mandate to influence the centre of England and become a centre for further YWAM missions equipping, The King’s Lodge was established.
Our historic building has been used to influence the lives of young people since its founding in 1886.
England’s role in proclaiming the gospel and the world missions movement has been profound. Tyndale and Wycliffe risked their lives by translating the Bible into English; William Carey launched the bold project to plant the gospel among Hindus in India ; CT Studd and the Cambridge 7 chose preaching the good news in China over fame and fortune; John Wesley led great revivals; CS Lewis entertains yet challenges us with his writings. The rich heritage of those who led the way over the centuries spurs us on to lead another “Great Awakening” in England and the nations.
The gospel message reached England by the end of the 2nd century through the expansion of the Roman Empire. Declared illegal until AD312 when the Roman Emperor Constantine became a Christian, Christianity became widespread in England during the 4th century.

One of the best weeks for me was the week we spent in Glasgow at a DTS gathering. This week saw a lot of my own prayers answered on a daily basis in even the smaller things. It worked to strengthen my own understanding of God’s very real work in everyday life. One of the things that have impacted me the most has been seeing that God is doing a lot more in this world and in and through people than I had realized before. Throughout DTS God has shown me the power in testimonies, seeing the way others tell their own stories and because it is their own the heart and passion that goes with it. You cannot argue with something like that. -

One of the ways I have grown closer to God during my time here has been knowing Him more as father; a father who loves unconditionally and wants us to succeed. This has helped me to understand the relationship he wants to have with us and this has led to more intimacy for sure. Before coming to the lodge I had received various encouragements that I am a leader and that would be part of my calling. Being previously the eldest in both church and school communities I wasn’t sure if this had just come because of my age. What has been reassuring is receiving similar words and encouragements despite being the youngest in my DTS and among the adults here.I would describe DTS perfect for exploring who God is and who I am meant to be in him. Through this I have been opened up to so much and now it is about being obedient to what God has for me. There are so many things that will dictate how I relate to God for the rest of my life so appropriate use of the word ‘LIFECHANGING’. I have known from the start that this is where I am meant to be.

There have been so many significant events in my DTS! Even from the first day! One of the biggest things that God has shown me since coming to the lodge has been, I’d say, just how much He loves me and how He wants in on my life. I’d say that I’ve grown closer to Him through a change in perspective. Something that had not clicked with me before is that God is not far away for me to find through my failings, but He is here; He is closer than close. To come to a renewed understanding that I am designed to have relationship with God and it’s the lies that I believe that keep me from my natural counterpart. This has changed the way that I talk to God and it’s changed the way I view myself. Every day I feel that I am growing closer to Him through repenting of the lies I believe and speak over myself and through a renewed confidence in my approach to God. Throughout DTS, God has been highlighting my gifts. He’s also been touching my heart where I feel insecure in regards to academics and comforting me with His dream to see me learn and teach the Bible! I’m so excited!
